brining a new pup home

My family has owned a Chihuahua for 6 years and he likes us all but he has really taken to my mother over the years. I currently wish to get a Basset Hound puppy. The only dogs my Chihuahua has been around are other dogs of his breed that my grandmother and aunt have. However, he does get along really well with them. Do you think he will take to the new Basset Hound puppy or could this result in disaster?

Answer
I think it should work out,just let them meet slowly,and even just let them sniff through a gate for a couple of days

And also spend a lot of time with the current dog before,and after you get the puppy so he won't become jealous of the puppy

As long as he is used to other dogs,the breed won't matter
