dog neutered today

my 6 mo. Boston was neutered today.  His scrotum is enlarged.  Is this normal?

Thank you for your question.

It is normal for there to be some swelling after surgery.  You can wrap some ice chips in a towel and hold it to his scrotum for as long as he will allow.  Distract him with some treats.

What is of concern is infection and excessive bleeding.  

Keep the area clean and keep him quiet and calm.

At the first sign of infection, bring him to emergency. Keep an eye on the swelling. It should start to go down.  The ice will help.
