7 week old Weimaraner and Wisconsin Winters

Question
Dlee,
I have a seven and a half week old Weimaraner who weights eleven pounds. I live in Wisconsin and it is bloody cold here!! There are about three and a half feet of snow on the ground and today it is 12 degrees Fahrenheit. We are potty training and she doesn't mind being outside to go to the bathroom, but can I start to take her on walks with my other dog yet? She's little and I don't want her to get too cold. What are signs I can watch for to tell me if her little feet are too cold, or would you just not recommend spending too much time outside with her yet?
Thanks!

Answer
I hope you did go ahead and take her out.  It is very important that they get out into the world before 12 weeks old.  You can't plan too long of a trip.  Watch her.  If she stops and holds one foot and then another up off the ground, it is too cold for her.  If you have to, pick her up and put her under your coat.

I have often taken young puppies with me to ring bells for the Salvation Army.  I always wear a loose fitting coat so I can fit the puppy under it.

How is housebreaking coming along?  It usually helps if you go out with the puppy at first.  Keep a coat where you can grab it as you go out the door.
