Adult dog bitting

Question
We have a 9 year old female Yorkie that we've had since a pup. She has always bitten. We have just delt with it all these years, but we now have grandchildren and she is biting them. She has also bitten other family members and tries to bite anyone who comes to our door. I have been bitten to the point of where I bleed or bruise very bad. I was told by a very well known behaviorist (Dorene Olson) that we should have her put down. I was also told by some who works for my Vet the same thing. This is so hard to even write about.
Thank you, Susan

Answer
Well one more thing you can try is a trainer that can come to the house, and work on her if they are will to do that-it is NEVER too late to start training a dog,and sometimes it's just a matter of finding a trainer that has more time.So it won't hurt to have at least one more trainer have a go at her.You don't have anything to lose by trying it-but if there's nothing that a second trainer can't do,unfortunatly you may have to do what your vet said.Unfortunatly when there's kids involved, you also have to think of the possiblity you could be in legal damage if the dog bit one of there friends. It is not an easy thing to do-and not something to be taken lightly.Often, small dogs are allowed to get away with more than larger dogs-and in fact more small dogs cause children to go to hospitals,so even with a small dog it can be very serious. You have to decide if you are willing to find another trainer that can give you better results-and some can.So there still might be some hope, depending if you are willing to put time and money into her
