Question
Hi. we have a 2 year old female Australian Shepherd and just got a brand new Bloodhound puppy 8 weeks old and we've had her for about 3 days now. I know that it takes a while for an older dog to get use to a new puppy. When we first brought her home my Aussie would show teeth and growl a little bit and I would correct her but yesterday she bit the pup and drew a little blood and I was really scared. We haven't shown my Aussie any less attention..if any thing she is getting a little more just so she can see that this is not an intruder it's a "little sister". When the puppy is sleeping my Aussie is acting normal but when the pup is awake I'm by the Aussie side the whole time until the pup goes back to sleep to avoid another fight. When they are outside my Aussie is ready to romp and play and even in my friends house where we use to live she is wanting to play. But inside the house she is so tense and always eyeballing the pup. Can you give me some tips on how to make this transition a little bit smoother from us? Thank you.
