Question
I would like to know how long does it take before my fox terrier will be house and crate train? He is 9 1/2 months and he is still pee & pooping in his crate and in the house? I've tried everything reward him when he do go out side. When I do let him out to go he don't go right away it takes him 1 to 2 hours before he poops, even when I take him on the leash he thinks we are going on walk. I don't know what else to do with him so I keep him in the crate. Please help me with some good ideals. Thank you, Connie

Answer
Unfortunately, you're doing all the right things.  How big is the crate?  If it's too big, he has room to pee in one end and sleep in the other.  It should be just big enough that he can stand and turn around.  If he's peeing in his crate, try keeping him tethered to you when you're home.  That way, if he starts to go inside, you can quickly whisk him outside.  If you take him out and he doesn't go, take him back in and keep an eye on him.  If he starts to go in the house, take him outside.  Exercise also helps stimulate a dog to poop, so try taking him for a walk or running him in the yard.  He's also going to go shortly after eating, so those are the times to take him out.  Good luck.
