Chinese Crested Chihuahua mix

Question
I NEED HELP WITH MY MIXED BABY. SHE SCRATCHES LIKE CRAZY AROUND HER NECK AREA (UNTIL IT BLEEDS). I HAVE SPENT ABOUT $100.00 ON MEDICATION ALREADY TO NO AVAIL. I WOULD LIKE TO TRY TO TREAT HER WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE LONG AND EXSPENSIVE PROCESS OF ALLERGY SHOTS. I JUST CAN'T FIND ANYONE AROUND MY AREA THAT REALLY KNOWS ALOT ABOUT THE BREED. PLEASE HELP MY LITTLE

Hi Lisa,

Wow, that's some mix you've got there.  I bet ChiChi is a real cutie!   Since she is scratching her neck,  are you sure it's not the ears she is aiming for?  Ear mites will cause considerable discomfort in a dog, and cause excessive scratching.  If you suspect this,  try drops of mineral oil in her ear and massage the base of the ear so as to push it down into the ear canal.  This will take longer to kill the mites, instead of a veterinary medication, but it will work.  If you don't think it's ear mites,  try bathing her with a medicated shampoo.  (people brand will work).  Let it sit on her skin for about five min before you rinse.  Also, a good "salve" to use for the places that itch, or for sores she has caused is baby diaper ointment.  I use it alot on my dogs when I groom them, and it really helps to avoid excess scratching. You also need to check for fleas, as just one flea will drive a dog crazy if they are allergic.  If she is truly allergic to something in your home, then I don't know what to tell you except a trip to the vet may be necessary.  Good Luck!
