Answer

Hi Gagan,

If your dog isn't showing signs of illness, such as acting lethargic, not eating or drinking, is vomiting or having diarrhea, or is reluctant to move, chances are something has frightened her, and you might not find out what it was. If you've noted any of those symptoms of a problem, your dog needs to be examined by a veterinarian.

You can treat this by using Rescue-remedy Drops (liquid), or use a Dog Appeasing Pheromone (DAP) either the plug in diffuser, or the collar. Both of these products are commonly used to soothe a stressed out dog, and can be found at larger pet stores and online. Neither will make your dog woozy or "drugged up".

Try giving your dog a little extra exercise while she's acting strangely. Exercise releases chemical endorphins in your dog's brain which can give your dog a mood boost, and make him feel happy, light, carefree, and "high" on life (just as they do for humans).

If nothing seems to help, have your vet examine your dog to rule out a medical problem (such as a heart murmur). If nothing is found and the problem continues, it's time to contact a positive-reinforcement trainer who has experience with fears and phobias, or with a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist. You don't want a negative behavior that's not a medical problem to become an ingrained habit.

Best of luck,

Patti
