Are eggs and pumpkin good for diarrhea?

19 9:25:06

Question
What is a good natural way of helping a dog with diarrhea? It was suggested to boil rice and chicken, which I am in the process of doing, and to give them canned unseasoned pumpkin and a hard boiled egg.

Is this safe?

Say boiled chicken and rice to eat for lunch, hard boiled egg for dinner, hard boiled egg for breakfast, and pumpkin sometime during the day?

The issue started after he started a new bag of Purina ProPlan Chicken and Rice. We always give him chicken or beef from ProPlan.

Answer
Pumpkin is good for both diarrhea or constipation... about a teaspoon or so (maybe a bit more is the dog is large). Use regular pumpkin, not the pie filling. I have not heard of using any of the other foods for diarrhea, but they are all good for stomach issues as they are all easier to digest. Instead of regular chicken, I use Gerber Strained Chicken (the baby food).

If you are quite sure that the dog hasn't gotten into something that he shouldn't have, I would question that bag of dog food and contact the company about it. They may have changed the ingredients enough that it is bothering your dog. By law, they have six months before they have to change the labeling on their packaging.

For either vomiting or diarrhea, I generally fast the dog for 24 hours to give the intestinal tract time to calm down.
