Question
My roommate has a 1yr old, male, neutered Teacup Yorkie; he has lived with
myself and my 3 yr old, male, lab since my roommate bought him. The first
house we lived in he would only have peeing accidents during us trying to
potty train him. We have since then been living in a new house for the last 7
months, where he is pooping EVERYDAY on a specific rug in the dining room,
specific corner of the tiled living room and on my NEW rug in my bedroom
every CHANCE he can get(once even in front of me). Whenever I catch him, I
immediately put his nose in it, calmly saying NO and then spank his butt; he
is
now terrified of me and will only be loving towards me in the presence of my
roommate. NOTE:He CONSTANTLY pees and poops all over his owners room/
closet/bathroom(she doesn't share the same frustration as I do) Is there
something I could do, like put all of his droppings in his owners/his room? I
am not only worried about how disgusting it is having piles of poop around
BUT I really do not want my house trained Lab marking or picking up this
horrible behavior. HELP PLEASE!!!!

Answer
Lauren, Hi! yes you do have yourself a problem there. Aright, to begin with please dont rub the animals face in his poo or piss, that is no method of teaching any dog any thing.
Make yourself very clear to your roommate that you do not want her dogs poo in your room/area. Further, make the dog aware that a particular section of the house is NOT HIS. How will you do this? Each time he enters your are shout OUT and have a water spray ready and spray some water on him.Do this for a while and he should come about. Thats as far as your problem goes, now if you do want to help your roommate out then tell her that she must take the dog to a courtyard (or wherever he can poop) 6 times a day, and that too at fixed timings. Remember once early in the morning and once late at night is mandatory.Along with this she must strictly discourage the dog when spotted pooping in the house. This will definately solve both your problems. Oh yes and more importantly, you must have all those poop spots that you mentioned, sweeped with some stong phynile, acid for washing floors.

p/s- Lauren, spanking a dog is rarely the right answer. Cheers
