Question
I have a year old female bulldog. She has been with us from birth and is very tame, and calm. We also have a Pekinese cross jack russel. She is years old and we have had her from birth as well. The two of them have always got along. Both are female and both are neutered. The last year the bulldog has been having these anger attacks. She just snaps and grabs the Pekinese.. We don't know what to do anymore. She attacks the cats and the Pekinese. We had to take her to the vet twice already for serious injuries after the bulldog got hold of her. We love them both very much but don't know what to do anymore. I don't want to come home someday and my Pekinese is dead and we don't want to put the bulldog down.. Please help..

Answer

Hi Liz,

I can't tell you how to correct your bulldog's behavioral issues. If you could read about how to fix the problem, you no doubt would have corrected it by now. You need the help of a "live and in person" professional animal behaviorist.  Your vet or local boarding kennel can probably refer one to you. If not, look in the yellow pages under dog training.

What I can tell you is, you should not be leaving your bulldog alone with your other pets when you aren't at home, or when you're unable to supervise her. During those times, she should either be crated, or separated with the help of a child-gate or two. If you don't separate this dog, there is the very real possibly that one day, you will return home to the tragedy you're worried about.

Best of luck,

Patti
