Dog and Cat

Question
My uncle asked my family and I a 2 year old basset hound named Angel while he was in between houses, abouot 2 months ago.  Last week he decided he didn't want her back, so she is going to stay with us.  She is very sweet and playful and I have fallen in love with her.

The problem is that I also have a 13 year old cat, who is very set in his ways.  He is not afraid of Angel, but certainly doesn't want to play with her.  We also have a golden retriever, who pretty much leaves the cat alone, and they don't have any problems.  But Angel is always wanting to play with the cat, even though he has scratched her nose more than once.

I am worried about my cat because he is old and I don't want him to be unhappy.  But I also love this dog and don't want to have to get rid of her.  Do you have any advice on how to help the animals get along?  Or how to make Angel leave the cat alone?

Thanks sooooo much for any suggestions!

Answer
This happens alot with new dogs coming into a new house with cats.  The only thing you can really do is everytime you see Angel go up to your cat firmly say to Angel "Angel no, leave the cat alone!"   There is not much you can do.  Sorry i was not much help,
i hope everything works out!
