daschund is couging

I have a 5 year old Female daschund that has a bad cough she sounds like she can't breath through her nose i plan on taking her to the vet but i was wondering if there was something i could do for her now until i get her into the vet? Tammy from ky

the most common cause of a cough in dogs is Kennel cough, a viral infection caused by many different virus' simular to the common cold in humans. My dog daisy has what I think is kennel cough, brought into our life by a new puppy. I am taking them to the vet to have a diagnosis on monday. the best thing to do in the mean time is keep them as quiet as possible to help them fight the virus. the vet will give them antibiotics to help also, but virus' just need time to work through the system. we all feel like their is a quick fix to a cold or flu, but medicine has no real cures for viral infections other than vacinations, which is preventive medicine. hope this helps.
