Question
My toy poodle was  attacked by a pit bull. My dog's jaw is broken in 3 places. The vet had to place plates , wires and pins. He said that he's hopeful he'll recover. He said that the reason why he taped my dog's jaw shut to help it heal. My question is....will the broken jaw heal?  The vet said he's hopeful but not giving me any guarantees. I'm so stressed out and scared. Please help

Answer
Hi Jhonna,

Thank you for writing to me.  I'm so terribly sorry about your dog's injuries after being attacked by another dog. It seems that your vet has done everything he can up to date.  What you can do is address the emotional trauma and healing process.  There are homeopathic remedies specifically related to bone fractures.  Here is a link that can explain it and what to do.  The problem is, how to get them into your dogs mouth if it's taped shut? How is your dog eating?  You may have to wait until his mouth is open again.   http://www.truestarhealth.com/Notes/2201007.html

You can also try acupuncture to help facilitate healing.

Once your dog can open his mouth again, you can address the emotional aspects of what happened.  Bach Flower Remedies are subtle but do help with emotional trauma.  Here is a link for you to look at: http://www.bachflower.com/bach-animals/

I hope that things work out for the best for your dog.  The most important thing you can do now is spend time with him, comforting and supporting him as he heals.

Shelley Davis
