Question
My partner and I have a very lively and affectionate 6 yr old Staffy living in a very small backyard. She has been fine with everything until about a month ago when new people moved into the house behind us. Just in this last week, she has been frantically trying to get into the house, ripping off all the flyscreens in the process and even made it through, then over an 8 foot fence, covering the fence in blood and injuring all her paws and her belly. She has been very depressed, sulking alot and won't even wag her tail for her dinner anymore. She has even become aggressive towards other family members dogs which she was always fine with. Is it separation anxiety, backyard phobia or something more?

Answer
Obviously some kind of trauma occured there. Have you observed their behavior in the back yard? Do they have a dog? I would try to find out what caused it and then attempt to redefine what the back yard means to her.

Don't send her out alone until you figure it out, it may be something like bees or flies too. I worked with a dog that crashed through a plate glass window and it turned out to be the backing up noise from construction trucks on the next block over.

But don't avoid the back yard either that may compound things.
