Compatibility of Labs and Shitzus

Question
Hello, My Fiance and I are planning on getting two dogs once we are married and settled in our new place.  We will be living in the Phoenix, Arizona area.  She has grown up with little dogs, mainly Shitzus.  I on the other hand have never had a dog but have always wanted a Lab.  Can you please tell us if these two breeds work well together and if there are things we should be aware of prior to getting them.  We want to get both as young pups in hope that they learn to play and grow up together.  Thank you.

Answer
Hello, Yes they will get along just fine but the shituz may get upset with the lab's play attemps when it gets older as they are very playful dogs. I can not reccomend getting two puppies at once as potty training is more difficult and obediance trainnig is much more difficult. Instead I reccomend getting noe puppy waiting until it is fully house trained and has some basic training before getting the other. Getting the lab first would be better advised as shituz's can be very jelus and may be agressive with a new puppy. The lab will easily except the shituz puppy. Have a look at my website: I've just added two pages about mutiple dogs the first is called multiple dogs the other is called adding pooch #2...there is only music on the first page and you can turn it down or off in teh bottom left corner. My website should fofer some intresting insight into preparing for your new puppies and genral basics. I am adding pages every few days so its a working prgress: http://www.freewebs.com/dustycovens/index.htm

may I also reccomend www.dogbreedinfo.org this is a very useful site and helped alot in my selecting my second and third dog. Best of luck with your new pup's.
