Skin moles on dog

Question
Hi Becky, I have an 11 year old shitzu who has developed moles on several places on his body. There is one on his left side that he seems to scratch and bite at alot. The mole has grown and looks red and sore. Do I have any reason for concern? I wasn't sure if the vet could do anything about this or if it was any thing to worry about. Thank you for your help. Betty

Answer
Hi Betty,

Since you say that it has grown and it is obviously bothering your little dog, I think you should take him to a Vet to be checked out.  The Vet can remove the mole and have it sent in for a biopsy to make sure it's not cancerous.  If it was small, was not growing and/or changing in color, AND was not bothering your dog, then I would say just keep an eye on it.  But in this case, I really think a trip to the Vet is in order. At the very least, let him/her look at it and see what they think.
At the very most, you will need to have it removed, which I would do anyway if it's bothering your dog.

God Bless,
Becky
