Rat terrior spots

Question
I have a two yr old Rat Terrior.  This summer he has gotten a lot more black spot on his skin but not in his coat.  Someone on the street said that this is common for Rat Terriors in the summer.  Is this true and why?

Answer
Since your dog is a bit young for old-age liver spots, this could be some sort of fungus, or the results of allergies or thyroid issues. If you see any other changes, or if you are really concerned about this, you should probably see your vet.

If you want to try something first, before seeing the vet, you could try washing the area using benzyol peroxide twice a day for a few days and see if there is any improvement. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the area after applying the peroxide.
