Yellow Sacks Dog Poop

Question
Over the weekend I noticed my dog was pooping an awful lot.  Yesterday he had yellow diarrhea.  Tonight he pooped 3 times in a matter of a couple of hours and there are yellow sacks within.  What could this be?

Answer
Hi Jenny,

Thank you for writing to me about your dog.

It sounds from your description that your dog ate something he shouldn't have, something that cannot be digested.  I would suggest that you get him to a vet as soon as possible.  Call your vet right away and describe what you are seeing.  This may be an emergency.

In the meantime, don't feed him any more food.  His colon is irritated and food will only make things more rough for him.  Make sure that he's drinking a lot of water. If you have to put a bit of beef broth in the water, that may help him want to drink. The goal is to keep him hydrated.

Please don't hesitate to contact your vet on an emergency basis as we don't know what these yellow sacks are and they could indicate an emergency. My philosophy is better safe than sorry.

Best regards,
Shelley Davis
