maltease gum illness

QUESTION:  we are being prosecuted wrongly i ma add. we had a Maltese for 13 years called max. max never ate dog biscuits or bones well basically anything he had to crunch he only ate his tin food or chicken that was broken up for him (long storie short but will tell you everything at a later date if you wauld like to know) max never left the garden but my partner had to leave the country so max went looking for her eventually ended up at our dog pound were i was told i was getting him back.the next day 2  very cheeky and forward sspca people turned up at the door saying we cant have him because he had a gum infection a weepie eye the weepie eye we put down to old age we never knew max had a gum infection but the sspca said we ought to have he was eating his food showed no sign of pain max has been put down not for his gums we are told but a lump on his leg we really dont know how if your dog has a a gum infection can you plz advise with thanks vincent

ANSWER: hiya i dont really understand wat you are asking me so could u ask me again and wats the long story and i have and had malteses one died at the age of 4 (he had cancer) and the other is still alive and she is 15 years old and she had gum disease and her teeth had to be removed she has  2 teeth left  unfortunatly malteses are prone to gum disease

QUESTION: Thank you for responding max was 16 years old and totally attached to my partner who had him since he was 6 weeks. During a time when her mother was dying she had to go back and forth to ireland. Max was missing her very much as he was always with her, he went out into the strett looking for her and got lost, we were devasated when i called the local animal home the next day i was releived to hear they had him and was told i would need to pay a small fine before i got him back, which i did. The guy at the animal home said his inpector just had to have a look at him first then i could go and collect him. Then all of a sudden i had 2 sspca inspectors  at the door telling me i wouldn't get the dog back. They said max had a very bad mouth infection and a weepy eye, i explained that we certainly did not no that he was in any pain and if we did we would have taken him to the vet. I also told them thatg due to our family circumstances my mother in-law was dying and my partner was in ireland at that time also we were dealing with a situation that had come to light in recent weeks, my 9 year old son had been sexually abused police were involved in this matter and the kids had gone to ireland with there mother to say there goodbyes to there grandmother. We rerally were going through a terrible time. Anyway with all this to deal with i said maybe he hadn't got the same attention he was used to but certainly not neglected he was as sad as the rest of us. They didn't really care about this and they cautioned me anyway, said they would be back to see donna when she came back. They cautioned her as well and tried to get us to sign the dog over but we refused but were told we wouldn't get him back anyway. After a few weeks they came out and told us if we didnt sign him over they would mput him down that night. Reluctantly we signed him over being told that this would be the end of the matter the whole family was distressed. Then in came the letter saying we were to appear at court as they were prosocuted anyway i couldn't believe it. We honestly didn't know max was in pain and don't feel we have been treated right. What i was asking was in your opinion do you believe we could have missed this with max as he was still eating correctly and showed no signs of any pain. the trial goes ahead next month.

actually i didnt no about mine either i only found out she had gum disease when i brought her for a check up in the vet so they actually dont show signs that they are in pain

oh and im so sorry to here about everything u have been going through and what happened to your son ?
