Question
Hi Kristin

I have a 8 year old male staffishire bull terrier. He had a castration due to a illness a few months ago, since then he has gained loads off weight and is not as fit as he used to be. He as always loved going for walks, it was his favorite thing, however lately (the last couple of weeks) he has been trying to run back home when I let him off his lead or is pulling when on the lead to go back all the time and you can tell he is not enjoying himself. When he gets back home he is ok!  I don't understand why as he normally loves walks??

Any ideas

Thankyou!

Linzi

Answer
It may be that is still feeling a little unwell, and doesn't want to walk as much as he did before-it's also possible it's his age, like people as dogs get older they tend not to want to do as much as they used to

And what you can try is to try coaxing him with some treats,or try to make a game out of going for walks

Another possibility is that he might have something medically wrong with him, like hypothyroidism and that makes dogs less active,so you might want to ask your vet to test for that,or any other health problems that can make a dog less active, heart problems will also do the same
