lab/golden retriever

Question
My husband let my golden retriever outside not knowing that she was in heat, and she mated with the black lab next door.  She had 7 puppies.  One solid black, 2 brindles, and four black with brindle spots.  How in the world did that happen?  never heard of a brindle retriever mix before.

Answer
Is it possible she had a chance to mate with another dog too?  I see many known Lab/Golden crosses and they are always solid colored.  Even after a female has mated with one dog, she will continue to mate with any others she has a chance to.

Such incidents are very unfortunate.  I hope you manage to find homes for the puppies.  We are slaughtering millions of dogs for lack of homes.  With your husband's demonstrated lack of responsibility, perhaps the best thing is to spay her before her next heat cycle.
