Question
I have a 10 yr old female daschund very overweight. I have had her for the last 5 years on a raw organic meat diet. I use organic coconut oil daily on her food. She has no back problems. She has only over the last 6 months been putting on the weight. I have not change her diet and I walk her 3 x daily, long  walks. I sometimes mix some raw carrots/celery in with her food. I am not feeding her a lot and at the moment she has only one meal a day, about 11 in the morning. I only give her distilled water to drink with some MSM in. So I am really trying to take care of her the best I know how. But this weight problem is a problem. I would really appreciate your help.
Thank you

Answer
Hello,
I think you need to take her to the vet and get a thyroid panel done on her.  These things can be inherited from parents and usually show up around ten years old.  She may also have a vitamin deficiency.  I believe the MSM is more minerals, which is excellent, but she may need some other things, an overall blood test will tell you this.   Good for you on the meat diet. I use a lot of meat for my dogs as well.   Make sure no one is giving her extra carbs by giving her treats, that hurts the meat diet.  If she needs a treat, make it cheese or cooked meat.
