Question
hi i have a yorky dog 11 yrs old the vet has recommended i give him bran to help with his anal gland what is the best brand of bran to get, with thanks moira

Answer

Hi Moira,

The "house brand" or any generic brand equivalent to a high fiber breakfast cereal such as Fiber One, or All-Bran is just fine, a handful can be used as a treat.

Alternatively, you could also use a fiber supplement such as Metamucil (or a generic Psyllium fiber supplement), mix 1/4 teaspoon into each meal. It's flavorless, your dog won't know it's there. Or, you can use canned 100% pure pumpkin (the unsweetened kind used for pies), mix a teaspoon into each meal or let him lick it off a spoon as a treat. Another option is to give your dog an apple wedge (no seeds) or a baby carrot or two, they're high in fiber, and most dogs love them.

I hope I've been a help.
Best of luck,

Patti
