Hates being left on his own.

Question
I got a rescue collie x husky nearly 5 years ago, he was 1 1/2 when i 1st got him and had loads of problems; he hated all other dogs and couldn't be left on his own at all, he completely destroyed the house. we managed to sort out pretty much everything; he loves other dogs and was quite happy on his own.
but for some reason hes gone back to his old ways when hes left alone, all bedroom doors are shut etc so its not too bad, but yesterday he chewed a hole in the wall, right through the plaster to the bricks, so we got him a crate, hes had 1 before but ate it. he sleeps in it on his own, and will happily sit in it, door shut, for hours in another room but i went out for 45mins today and left him in it with toys treats and water (before i went i took him out for an hour walk) but came back and he met me at the door,he'd pretty much destroyed the crate.
i have no idea what to do now because i cant trust him in the house or the crate.
any help would be appreciated, thank you,
Emma x

Answer
Since he destroys the crate, you might be left with no choice but to get a prescription from your vet and sedate him when you are not home,as some dogs have to be if they can't be crated or trusted to be free in the house when you are not home, but ONLY do it from recommendation from your vet, just giving him drugs can be very dangerous

It is common for some dogs to have to take a pill, and sometimes it's only short term
