housebreaking a pup

Question
I have a 10-week old cava-poo. We are crate training and things are going o.k., but I'm concerned about him pooping most mornings in the crate. We have used the crate divider to shrink the space he has available. He eats around 5p with no treats after that. We try to limit his water intake so that he isn't allowed any after 8p. Bedtime is generally between 10-11p and wakeup time is between 6:30-7a. He eats Science Diet dry food with a spoonful of canned food with some warm water 2 times a day (~7a and ~5p). He seems to be getting the idea that pooping is done around feeding time - sometimes before, sometimes after, sometimes both. Any advice?

Answer
Hey Karen. Ok first, no more canned food. Dry food with a little water is great, but no canned food. I would take him out first thing in the morning, after he eats, & before you leave for the day. Canned food can make puppies poop more. Sounds like you have him on a great schedule & I would not stray from it. Schedule is very important with dogs! Seems like you're doing a great job!=) Just no more canned food & a few more let out times.
