Dogs are individuals and that first season can vary considerably. Here my bitches have come in as early as 5-1/2 months and as late as 11 months, with the average age being around 8 months.

After five months of age, upend your bitch on a regular basis (every day is preferable) and check her nipples for development. Once you see them start to "pop", make that appointment for spaying immediately as she will be coming in season within a matter of days.
