Question
I have a 10 month old lab that was outside playing/working. He came inside for a while and ended up taking a nap. After a while sleeping he woke up whining and yelping, this lasted for about 30 seconds, then he was fine and acting normal. Is it possible for dogs to get muscle cramps when they're overheated? If so is the sport drink stuff they make for dogs helpful for that?

Answer
I would stick to plain water.  It is a good idea to wet dogs down before outside activity in hot weather.  Most labs love a chance for a dip in the water.  I often drag black Labs to fund raisers where we are out in the sun on concrete all day. I keep them wet down, and they do fine.  I let my old yellow Lab take a dip in the river at a covered bridge festival.

If the cramps or whatever become a frequent problem, you might talk to the vet.
