Question
Good morning/evening,

I recently rescue a little puppy of appr. 3 months from a lady that was given them 5 days for someone to pick one up or she would have put an end to their life. It was on such a short notice that I kind of just pick one and was not prepare with any information on the breed. From what I gather he is a mix of Labrador and Labernese. Very smart I have been giving him regular food that my adult Pomeranian eats. I have plan a visit to the vet this week, and was planning on buying puppy food for large breeds for him, but heard that it cause bad effects on the growth and bones. Is that true? And is it wise to incorporate vegetables that are know to help prevent cancer? Like spinach and berries. And instead of making him drink water give him green tea? Since it seems that Labrador and Bernese usually have cancer problems. How can I also reduce his crying at night? What I have been doing is putting my sleeping bag near his cot, and wait until he falls asleep to go to my own room. It works until he wakes up and sees no one and start crying very very loudly or barking/yapping. Or how can I minimize his crying when I got upstairs to retrieve something and leave him alone for 3-5 minutes?

Is it normal for my Pomeranian to fight so much with the puppy? I know some signs of dominance like throwing him on the floor and placing her muzzle on his neck. He seems to accept it for now since he easily shows her his tummy. And I don't get involved. I pet her first, and let her eat first which seems to keep her happy. But once he gets bigger and stronger won't he hurt her to take the alpha position? Or will she easily give her place since he is a male?

Thanks you so much for your time
Artemis

Answer
Hi
You need to establish pack order in your home to prevent fights now and in the future between your dogs. Go to alpha dog boot camp on the web and implement their ideas with your dogs both of them
Your new pup needs to be on a food that is 23 percent protein or less. A large breed puppy food from Eagle Pack, Wellness  or Natural Balance would be a good choice.
Put him on some supplements, a good multivitamen, b complex, c, e, glucosamine and chondroiten. Omega fish oil supplements also.
Bone meal is also a good additive. These things should help keep your dog healthy. But remember some diseases are genetic. You can work to try to keep him healthy though. Stay away from chemicals in dog food, by products, and grains. I would give him water and stay away from the green tea.
For the sleeping issues, give him a treat filled toy to keep him company, try leaving a radio or tv on low for him in his sleeping area. And tough it out :). Like babies he will eventually stop crying at night.
Good luck, sounds like you're doing a wonderful job
