Question
Hello, My rottweiler is 3 years old and i have had no problem with him until now. I have 3 dogs in my house hold. I have a bullmastiff which is 1 year old male, a 2 year old pittbull female and my 3 year old rottweiler male.
My male rottweiler was in my household first then came my pittbull then bullmastiff...lately my rottweiler has been brutily attacking my bullmastiff at any chance he can get. If he is outside inside or where ever. I have been having to keep the bullmastiff and rottie seperate for 2 weeks now. This was never a problem before. I dont understand what is going on. My rottweiler and pitbull are fine together. She jumps all over him and he shows no signs of aggression. Also just lately when he is eating he will growl if no one is around..not even the dogs but when im washing dishes and hes eating 5 feet behind me he will still growl and look around. I put my hand in his food and he does not do anything but stay at a stand still with his head in the bowl. BUt my main concern is that he keep attacking my bullmastiff for no reasons at all. Please help me. i dont know what to do. My male rottie is not fixed and neither is my bullmastiff. Someone has suggested to me to get my rottie fixed but i will do whatever i can to keep them both.

Answer
Hello, Autumn. What could be happening is that the Bullmastiff may be challenging your Rottie for pack position as he is becoming mature. Even though you are noticing aggression from the Rottie, it could be that the Bullmastiff is actually causing the problem.

I would suggest neutering them both, and spaying the pitbull if she is still intact, because her hormonal swings can also cause the two males to fight. Males and females typically will not fight one another.

In addition to having your dogs speutered, I would strongly suggest that you hire a local trainer who can come to your house and work with you and your dogs one on one to solve the issues you are having. I would not recommend sticking your hand in your Rottie's food bowl while he's eating. His body language, as you described it, is indicative of a dog who is feeling threatened and may strike out if pushed.
