Question
Hello Karen,

I am planning to add to my already existing family (me and my american staffordshire terrier) an argentine dogo and possibly a jack russel. I was wondering would it be alright or will they end up eating each other? by the time i get the latter 2 my american staffordshire terrier will be 9 months old, will that be a problem?

Answer
Some breeds can be very good with each other, but some others can make for very bad combinations. Some breeds, such as the Dogo Argentino, can just be plain bad for the average person. This is a breed that should only be taken on by a very experienced, knowledgeable dog-person... a strong person who is willing to take on a dog that may challenge him for pack leadership once it matures. http://www.dogo.org/Education/Is_the_Dogo_for_you.htm

Between the AmStaff, which can be a dog-aggressive breed with a terrier attitude (and yours would be deep in adolescence at nine months... think teenager here), the prey-driven Dogo with the capability to take on just about anything successfully, and the never-sit-still, very active Jack Russell (maybe looking much like prey as it races about), this entire thing sounds like it could be a very bad combination to me.

One should never bring in a second dog until the first one is completely trained and has been molded into "the dog of one's dreams" as the second (or third) dog will pick up any bad habits the previous one has, and the first one will train the second one.... for good or bad.
