Coonhound Appetitie

Hi,
I have a six month old coonhound. I feed him twice a day with a very high protein dog food.  All this dog wants to do is eat!  Help, he won't stay out of the trash and food is his priority, well when he isn't trying to tree a coon.  Please help.

Well this is actually normal-as many dogs are driven by food alone,what you can try is two cups at each meal,but you do not want him to get fat,so you probably don't want to feed him until he is full

If that doesn't help him from eating out the trash can,what you try when you see him doing it,make a really loud noise,such as bang pots and pan or even just clapping and say 'leave it' each time

Another method is to attack a leash to him and use a chock chain and when he goes to the can,pull the leash back fast and say 'leave it' loud and firm
