blood and swelling

"i have an 1yr old english bulldog he has been very healthy no problems till now i dont know if he scraped himself or how this happened.  but this morning his balls got really red , his penis tip is purple (looks bruised). and has occasional small blood drops.   i plan on taking him to the vet tomorrow, i was just wondering if you knew what caused this

Hi Scott,

Thank you for writing to me about your sweet Old English Bulldog.  Things sound really serious with the situation you are describing and I'm not sure you should be waiting any longer to consult with a vet.  My advice is to contact your vet by phone and describe the details and ask if he recommends bringing your dog in on an emergency basis?  If the situation involves infection and it's spreading (purple) then this would be an emergency condition.  Red can also indicate infection and if left untreated, infection can enter the blood stream and your dog can become septic.  Please call your vet and ask if this would require rushing your dog in.
