wart like bump on paw

Hi Heather,
My 2 yr old pit/lab mix recently grew something on the top of his paw.  I'm not sure what it is, he doesn't seem to be bothered by it. He will 'clean' it every so often.  It's  circle shaped, about the size of a milk chocolate m&m. It looks like a wart/cauliflower like texture. I noticed that this growth pushed the hair upwards and I see some hair growing out of this growth. Any clue what this is? Should we take action?

Hi Alyson. This sounds like a mass of some sort. If he was older, I probably wouldn't worry about it but since he's so young; I would let your vet check it out. It might be a cyst or an infection of some sort. Or it could be a tumor. Your vet can use a needle to aspirate some cells & look at it under a microscope to determine what it is. This will definitely give you some peace of mind. Let me know what they say.
