Question
Hi  Patti,

I just adopted a puppy from a Shelter 10 weeks old, and along they gave me this medication to continue giving her for 10 days. They said she has a bad cold. The medication has to be handled with gloves, capsules of 400 mg Chloro.
I tried finding information on the web with no success and would like to know if you have any information or experience with this kind of medication. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Selma,

Congrats on getting a new puppy!

I can't tell you what the drug Chloro is. It may be an abbreviation, there are dozens of medications who's name begins with "CHLORO".

Because you were advised to handle the medication with gloves, I would guess that it's being used in the treatment of some kind of parasitic worm infestation.

It's really important that you contact the shelter that you got your puppy from and find out the exact condition your puppy is being treated for, as well as the full and proper medication name. Just like any parent, keeping a detailed medical history starting when your dog is a baby is important.

You shouldn't be afraid to ask specific questions whenever medication is prescribed to your puppy. Find out what the drug is, why is it being prescribed, how long must he be on it, what are the signs of side effects, when does the drug expire, when you should expect to see results, and what to do if you don't see those results within a given period. Also ask if a return doctor visit or additional diagnostic tests are required... ask all the questions you might ask if YOU were the one taking the medication.

Your puppy's health and wellbeing depends on you.

I hope I've been a help, even though I couldn't identify your puppy's medication.

Best of luck,
Patti
