Aggressive Boston Terrier

Question
Hi Kristin!!

So I have a 1.5 year old male Boston terrier. He was very afraid of people as a puppy and I believe that it is due to the fact that he was mistreated by the breeder (when I got him he was missing chunks of fur, and had scabs everywhere and was very skinny and his tail is broken in 2 places). I have done my best to socialize him and get him used to being around strangers. The aggression problem however has not gone away. He attacks EVERYONE that walks within biting range of him, whether we are on the sidewalk or in my home. I'm not talking about playful biting either... the hair between his shoulder blades goes up, he growls, shows his teeth, and without hesitation lunges at people... whether they are children, adults, males or females. My vet suggested getting him neutered, which I did when he was 7 months old, and so far there has been no improvement. He is so aggressive that I have to sedate him in order to bring him to the vet for his shots. He has never shown aggression towards me and has no aggression AT ALL when he's around his food, toys, or other dogs (I can actually put my face beside his bowl while he's eating and he'll just start licking me). There are some people that he has slowly gotten used to, and once he knows them he loves them and is as affectionate with them as he is with me, but I am afraid that one day he will really hurt someone. What can I do to fix this?

Thanks!

Answer
I think the best way to fix this is to find a really good trainer, and by that I mean one that has delt with problem dogs and not just an obedience class. So the best thing to do,will be to call every trainer in your area, explain to them the situation and write down guestions you are going to ask them all,and write down all of there answers and go with the one that first has the most experience and second gives the best answer.A trainer is the way to go here, because a trainer can see the problems you are having and will work hard to solve them.Trainers are miracle workers-any dog can be trained. But you might have to pay a decent amount to get the results you need
