Maltese -vs- Japanese Chin

Question
QUESTION: I am trying to decide which of these would make the best pet.  I have found docile/non-dominant pups from both breeds and must decide which do go with.  Both are from reputable breeders who I have checked out and referenced and researched.

ANSWER: A Maltese is a bit more to take care of with coat care, you have to get them groomed, and it's often hard to keep the coat looking with all the time, plus there coat tends to get tangled up more easily

The main problem with Japanese Chins are eye injuries but if you don't have a lot of bushes ect it should be fine

Both breeds are good, but Maltese dogs do require a lot of coat care-so that may be the biggest factor to think about,a Japanese Chin has long hair as well but is a bit easier to look after, but you do have to watch there eyes

But if I had to decide I would go with the Japanese Chin

QUESTION: Thank you for your input.  I actually live on a lake and there are quite a few bushes, although my dogs have a fenced courtyard with more formal landscaping that they hang out in.  Coat care is not a problem as I already take my 2 Chinese Crested Puffs to a groomer every 2 months and I don't mind daily brushing, etc.  I'm most interested in temperment.  Do you have input on temperment?

Answer
Maltese have a terrier like temperament, which means at times they can be snappy, esp with kids, they can also be good little watch dogs as they will bark if someone is at the door, they are also a very active little dog and love to play, they are also smart and are quick to learn new tricks

Like the maltese the Japanese Chin is easy to train and likes to learn new tricks,if you have small children they must be taught to handle this breed with care,as they are delicate, but is also quieter then the maltese and a bit more laid back as well

So in a nutshell a maltese is a more active and alert dog, while the Chin is more laid back and quiet-both are easy to train and are smart

So it all depends on if you want a dog that is more feisty or a dog that 'goes with the flow'
