Inflated stomach on a Chihuahua

Question
On Sunday we had a BBQ at the house and some friends kept giving my Chihuahua rib bones and I am not sure what else.  The following day I noticed his stomach was big.  I thought nothing of it since he behaved as usual. On Tuesday, I noticed that he was not eating and he was laying down most of the day.  I thought he was just having the results from his gluttony.   He was drinking lots of water and vomiting the water with a white/yellow foam which i thought he was just vomiting whatever was hurting him(that was on Tuesday).  Today, Wednesday, I am getting worried because he has not eaten in two days. We are now going into his third day without food and he also stopped drinking water.  His stomach has gotten bigger and I also noticed he has not defecated.  Please help with suggestions on what it may be.

Answer
Hi Ronald,

Not drinking water is actually a serious concern in a dog, especially a small dog. Dehydration is a slippery slope that can kill when not treated.

You need to have your dog examined by your vet, please do not delay. An intestinal blockage is another concern that can have life threatening results.

I hope this is a lesson to you regarding what you can let your dog eat. Your poor dog is the one paying the price of your ignorance. Pass the vet bill on to your friends, and see if they think it's funny.

Best of luck,
Patti
