Zinc Oxide cream ingestion

19 10:06:15

Question
My 65 pound bassett hound just ate a small tube of zinc oxide ointment.  He has thrown up and is showing no external signs of distress.  Does he need emergency care or can I monitor him for the day?

Answer
Hi Sheri,

Your best bet is to call your vet, and ask what to to next! Zinc oxide isn't able to be digested, which is why she's vomiting. Zinc can be toxic if a dog eats enough of it. If your dog also ate the tube, that is also cause for concern.

Your vet might just advise to watch your dog, but it's possible they'll tell you to bring him in to the office.

Best of luck!
