surgery side effects

Hi. My dog just got neutered and had his hernia repaired about 4 days ago. I'm worried because although he is normally eating, he has not defecated for 4 days and the last time he urinated was the night before yesterday. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do besides taking him to the vet and spending another $50 for a checkup?

this question is a good one. your vet should be contacted with your concerns, if the issue is a complication of the surgery then the vet may not charge you. but the vet should be contacted about what is happening. costipation, and stomach issues may be a side effect of the drugs used but should not last this long. Your vet should at least be called and talked to over the phone, which is at no charge with any good vet. the vet is out for the best for your pet the fees are just part of doing business, and making a living. the vet should be your first option in any post surgery issues.
