static electric shock from touching the dog

Question
recently when someone touches the dog we get an electric shock from him, this morning his tail brushed one of the kids it hurt them and also hurt the dog as he cried and ran off, i have spoken to my vet who has never heard of this happening. Any thoughts on this.  Thanks

Answer
It's more likely that you are discharging static electricity that you have gathered yourself.  I shock my dog all the time when it's dry out.  Try touching something else before you touch your dog to discharge any static electricity so you don't shock your dog.
