Question - I am having a dispute between a friend, I myself am a GSD lover, and have had them all of my life.
My friend and I were desputing over the top protection dog, I say it's a Doberman Pincher, he says it's a Rottweiller( I don't know how to spell it ) I remember hearing once that the Doberman was the smartest. Do you know? I looked on that web site, but I keep getting multible answers to unrelated questions.

Thank You Very Much!,
Connie

Answer
I personally think it is all a matter of personal preference.  I have owned a GSD, Doberman, Pittbull, and currently have a Rottweiler.  Of all that I have owned the Pittbull and the Rottweiler have been the best for me as far as protection dogs.  They bonded better with my family and were more protective.  For example we'd only had our rottie for a month.  She was adopted through a rescue.  I got a knock on my front door one day.  My 3 kids and I were at home alone at the time.  I went to the door and answered and there stood three young boys.  Now my rottie is very loving and if someone enters my home she is all wiggles and kisses.  However this time her entire body movement was different.  She stood really stiff and her hair raised on her back.  She growled and barked.  Something she never does.  Well she scared those boys and they ran off of my porch.  Later that night we learned that those three boys robbed a house only 3 houses down from my house.  They robbed a little old lady.  Our rottie somehow knew they were trouble and she ran them off.  According to what I've read though, the Bullmastiff ranks number one as a protection dog.  However as I said it is all a matter of personal preference and I would personally never be without a rottie or a pit.
