Dear Patt -

This isn't a follow-up question, just a thank-you for your previous response. Chade (a.k.a. The Dog) does seem to be settling down, and is definitely friendly to me now. He still has a special relationship to Yael (a.k.a. My Wife), but he's gradually becoming less clingy. He's also gotten to the occasional-mutual-nose-sniff stage with some of the cats; others still want nothing to do with him.)
