What can I do for my dog, he has a sore on his leg near his penis. I tried putting hand gel on it and it made it worse, is there anything else I can put on it. The sore is red and puffy.

Hi Amy,

Wash the wound daily with a clean wash cloth and mild soapy water. Dry the area, and apply an antibiotic ointment, such as Neosporin, or Bacitracin, rather than using a hand gel.
It helps if you take the dog outside for a walk just after the cleaning and application of the antibiotic ointment. The dog won't have a chance to lick it off immediately, in fact, he (or she) may forget all about it by the time you get back from the walk.

If the area doesn't show signs of improvement within a week, then you need to have your dog examined by your vet.
