We have a female weimaraner approx. 5 years old and a lump that is about the size of a nickel suddenly appeared in a few hours that is purplish in color. It is on her head beside her left ear and sticks up about a 1/4". Is that something that she bumped her head on or is it serious?

Hi Debbie, It sounds like she has gotten a hematoma. She will need to go to the vet to get it lanced and drained. Hematoma's are common around the ears because the blood vessels are so close to the surface of the skin, and when the dog shakes its head and hits anything, the blood vessels rupture real easily.
