Question
Well I have a 4 month old chihuahua mix female pup in heat.  She is the puppy of a rescued dog who was half yorkie/ mini poodle and the father is a guessed chihuahua, leaving her a mix. she has yorkie coloring with thick coat like a longhair chihuahua and a bob tail.  She is 3 lbs now and is to be estimated about 5 to 6 lbs. so back to my question. . . Is her going into heat this early a bad thing?  I want to breed her, but I want whats best for her.  What information should i know or ask to make sure i know all i can about her.

Answer
Kelly,

Four months is very unusual for a dog to come into season. I would wait at least one more heat and better to wait two more.  Honestly, I don't know why you would want to breed her. She is not full blooded, and there are so many unwanted dogs out there, that what you really should do is have her spayed. It is much healthier for her and you won't be contributing to the overpopulation.  Just a suggestion.

God Bless,

Becky
