Wee wee pad behavior

Question
I have a handsome 4.9 lb Yorkie Poo that is 13 months old. Because I live
in a rural area and he is so little I don't allow him outside. He was trained
on wee wee pads and it was actually very easy a d he never had
accidents anywhere in the house but would just take off in a run to the
pad. He still goes to the bathroom but every other time or so he  just goes
on the tile floor. Since he's never done this before I don't know how to
correct this behavior. The pad has not been moved. I am thankful at least
that he goes to the bathroom but what could be causing this change?

Answer
Susan,
If possible, take a urine sample to the vet to see if he has an infection.  Has he had a bout of fleas lately?  If so check for tapeworm.  It will not show up in the stool, you must check around his anus to see if you notice little pieces of rice.  If you see this ever you must get a pill from the vet.  It will disturb housebreaking if they have this.

Now:

Is the pad always clean?  Do you take it up between times?

Start from day one and correct him when you see he has gone somewhere else and bring him to the pad.

Make sure the pad is fresh

Also, put down a second pad a little away from the original pad.  Sometimes I have seen that work.

Let me know if this works and if not we will try plan B.
