Question
after spading a dog does it become more obidient and protective.

Answer
Heather,

What we commonly refer to as 'spaying' is a procedure called an Ovariohysterectomy, or OVH. It is the surgical removal of the ovaries. The main benefit of spaying is in regards to your dog's health. There are a number of problems that spaying reduces or eliminates the risk of - among them are breast cancer (yes dogs get it too - it is cancer of their mammary glands), uterine or ovarian cancer, pyometra (a serious uterine infection), and the list goes on.

Spaying also has some behavioral benefits, but I wouldn't say they are significant. It's probably not going to change the temperament of a female dog very much. And it has no effect on how protective they are of you. Also, if your dog isn't a growler, that doesn't mean she isn't protective of you. This is a common misconception. Most dogs, whether their owners realize it or not, would do anything protect their family when danger presents itself. The only thing that will make your dog more obedient is training.

Below is a link to an article on the benefits of spaying from the website www.spayusa.com.

I'm glad you are considering spaying your dog and I highly recommend it. It is an affordable procedure with many benefits. Good luck!
