Question
I have a 13 year old mixed akita, lab.  He has just begun to pee in the house.  He gives no warning that he has to go out.  I was wondering if there was anything we could do to help him.  We are frustrated but understand that is probably age.  He still seems like he is functional well, he wants to play and is still eating it is just the pee problem.

Answer
You are right, Robin. This is probably due to his age. Just like people, as dogs age, they sometimes lose control of their bladder and bowels. I would recommend that you talk to your vet and see if there is any medication that you could put him on to help with the incontinence. Do not scold him for it, either, because he cannot help it.
