Re-house breaking adult dog

Question
I have visited your website and still have a question. I have a 3 year old male toy poodle. He is not fixed. He has always eaten at 7am and 6pm (due to work schedules). He is an inside dog (never outside unsupervised). We have not had a problem before, but lately he has been peeing in the house sometimes during the day and almost every night. I can't crate him at night because he cries all night. Even if he is right next to the bed, and that is the biggest problem. We pick up his food and water around 8pm and go to bed around 11pm. He always goes outside last thing. And we take him out first thing at around 7am. I don't know how to break this bad habit. Please help!! Thanks.

Answer
You may want to have the vet check him for an infection, Monica. If this behavior has just started, my guess would be that it has to do with a medical issue because, at 3 years of age, dogs don't just 'forget' their housetraining.

Would he cry if you put him in an x-pen? Most dogs won't, even if they cry in a crate.

It's probably a good idea to go ahead and have him neutered now as well. If he's marking (ie: lifting his leg on things), that can be curbed some by neutering. Not to mention the health benefits that go along with the procedure. If he's not a show dog, there's no reason to keep him intact.
